Flow Regulating Valves
-Definition:
Vonberg flow regulating valves are designed to limit the amount of flow
going to or from a hydraulic actuator. (Hydraulic cylinder or motor)
Vonberg
flow regulating valves are pressure compensated to provide a constant flow
of oil regardless of any changes in the inlet pressure, i.e. heavy load
verses light load, etc.
Currently
Vonberg supplies valves with a factory preset flow ranging up to 80gpm.
Flow regulation takes place in the direction of the arrow (printed on
valve) with reverse flow uncontrolled and unrestricted. Flows are
controlled with a
+/- 15%
tolerance up to 1.5 gpm and +/- 10% at higher flows. Valve bodies
can be made of aluminum (3000 psi max) or steel (5000 psi max). Four
types of valve styles are available: 1) in line, 2) slip-in
insertable, 3)
threaded insertable or
4) cartridge.
Vonberg
also manufactures a complete line of flow regulating valves in our
exclusive S.I.D. (Surges Internally Dampened) series. Vonberg
engineers originally developed this flow regulator for the material
handling market. It is uniquely designed to eliminate instability
(bouncing or lurching) inherent in most load lowering applications.
These high quality valves have achieved universal acceptance among every
major forklift manufacturer including: Clark, Prime-Mover, Crown, Raymond,
Nissan and Toyota to name just a few.
-Applications:
There are three basic ways to
control flow in actuators:
1) Meter-in circuits will have
the flow regulator placed to control the amount of fluid entering a
cylinder. This type of circuitry is commonly used to control the
extension of a cylinder when lifting a load vertically.
2) Meter-out circuits control the
flow exiting a cylinder or motor. For cylinders, this application is best
suited for over-running loads including drilling, boring, or dumping.
Speed control of motors can be accomplished by using a valve on the outlet
port. For some applications with double acting cylinders, a pair of flow
controls mounted back to back is required to control flow in both
directions.
3) In a bleed off circuit, the
flow regulator is placed in parallel with the actuator and bypasses a
portion of pump output flow to tank. This is theoretically more efficient
than using a relief valve since pump pressure need only be high enough to
overcome resistance.
Adaptations of these basic principles can
be utilized to give numerous types of control circuits.
-Sales
Features:
1)
Broadest range of in line body sizes in the industry ¼” through 1 ½”.
2)
Broadest ranges of thread options including NPTF, SAE, JIC, BSPP, Metric or ORS.
3) The
only manufacturer that offers an S.I.D. series valve universally accepted
by the material handling industry.
4) Most
competitively priced valve on the market for both in-line and cartridge
series.
5) Largest
valve component inventory of any flow regulator manufacturer, assuring your
customer immediate delivery.
6) State
of the art CNC manufacturing facility to meet any requirement, both
standard and custom.
-Typical
Markets: The largest markets for flow
regulators are:
1)
Forklifts,
including industrial and rough terrain (mast lift cylinders). In-line and
cartridge styles are used.
2) Hydraulic lifts, including
platform, aerial basket and table (lift and bucket cylinders). In-line
and cartridge styles are used.
3) Hydraulic tailgate lifts (main
cylinder). In-line
and cartridge styles
are used.
4) Mobile hydraulic cylinder
manufacturers. Cartridge style flow regulators are used; standard,
insertable and slip-in.
Additional markets where flow
regulators are used include wheelchair lifts for buses and vans, refuse
compactors and balers, airport ground equipment, mobile drilling rigs and
construction equipment including cranes, backhoes, excavators and
trenchers, fire apparatus equipment and many more.
